I love music. I grew up around it (classical, jazz, and bluegrass).
This is most of what I've been doing the past few years. I love to take a simple chord progression and make it more exciting through different chord voicings. Listen to Bob Wills, Hot Club of Cowtown, and Asleep at the Wheel for an intro.
I grew up going to the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, KS and developed a love for the style. I don't actually play it that much, but bluegrass jams are a great way to find other musicians.
I discovered barbershop when I lived in Madison, Wisconsin. In college, I sang in a men's a capella group and was looking for something similar when I moved to WI, but found my way into a barbershop quartet instead. There's nothing else quite like singing tight harmonies with a few other voices, and being the only one on your part gives the control and responsibility to ramp up the enjoyment.
I played bass in orchestra from childhood through college. I don't love it enough to play as a solo instrument, but holding down the low end in a symphony is satisfying.
