My physical therapist recommended this national park in southern Thailand and
showed me some pictures, and when I showed Anna we immediately put it on the
list. It's a little out of the way, but still easy enough to access if you're
willing to spend a little money (not a ton, but more than a typical backpacker
budget).
We booked through
Anurak Lodge
to take care of the transport and all activities for us, which let us minimize
the potentially-challenging logistics. They had a nice little compound with
gorgeous views and quality activities.
This bike ride was one of my favorite parts of our whole trip. The setting was
absolutely stunning and our private guide, Nit, was friendly and educated. He
really understood the ecosystem and was able to explain (in English, even)
what all the different plants and wildlife were and how they work together.
We knew vaguely that rubber comes from trees, but seeing it in person was
fascinating. They score the trees at night so it will drip longer while it's
cooler.
Another, much shorter, elephant experience. The first one up north was overall
better, but this elephant was super friendly and Anna was in love.
A nice arrival to a peaceful area and cabin, but we're not spider people.
Nit cooked us a tasty, massive meal after our tour. Tours throughout our trip
seemed to have meals sized for more than two people.
